Tar Heels sign six players to letters of intent

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) The rebuilding at North Carolina got a little easier on national signing day.<br> <br> Coach Roy Williams announced Friday that he had signed a group of six players, including 6-foot-4 guard Wayne Ellington from Merion Station, Pa. Many recruiting services, including Scout.com, ranked the class as the best in the country over Ohio State.<br> <br> ``This class gives me faith in the college basketball recruiting process,&#39;&#39; Williams said in a statement. ``We needed to sign a large class, but it needed to be a group with character and ability.&#39;&#39;<br> <br> Joining Ellington were 6-6 forward William Graves from Greensboro; 5-11 point guard Ty Lawson of Clinton, Md.; 6-9 forward Alex Stepheson of North Hollywood, Calif.; 6-8 forward Deon Thompson of Torrance, Calif.; and 6-9 forward Brandon Wright of Nashville, Tenn.<br> <br> (Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press.
