Kennesaw State 79, Lamar 60

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) Ronnell Wooten scored 19 points and Kennesaw State defeated Lamar 79-60 Saturday in the consolation bracket of the BP Top of the World Classic.<br> <br> The victory was the first for the Owls (1-1) as a Division I team.<br> <br> Kennesaw State started a 15-3 run with seven minutes gone in the first half. Ryan Nelson hit two 3-pointers and Wooten scored five and Kennesaw State led 37-23 at halftime.<br> <br> In the opening minutes of the second half, Lamar&#39;s Nashid Beard hit a jumper, two lay-ups and a free throw to trim the lead to 39-30.<br> <br> But the Owls behind baskets by Wooten, Golden Ingle and Brent Ragsdale stopped the run and Kennesaw State stretched its lead to 27 points.<br> <br> Ingle finished with 16 points and Ragsdale 11. Both had five assists.<br> <br> Beard and Josh Goodwin led the Cardinals (0-2) with 18 apiece.<br> <br> Kennesaw shot 55 percent for the game and was 11-of-20 from beyond the 3-point line.<br> <br> (Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press.
