ATLANTA - For most of the season, Grady has dealt with the label as the underdog.

But after easily notching Macon County last week and becoming the first Atlanta public school to play in the Georgia Dome, the Grey Knights (13-0) have clearly eclipsed obscurity.

After a scoreless first half, Simeon Kelly accounted for three scores in a 20-0 win for Grady.

Now, Grady has another test against undefeated Calhoun on Friday. The Yellow Jackets (13-0), who advanced to the semifinals for the first time since the school won the 1952 state title, dominated Fitzgerald in a 48-20 victory.

Cody Worly threw for 103 yards and was involved in three scores last week. But the Calhoun quarterback has to deal with a stingy Grady defense that allowed only 121 total yards and recorded shutout this season last week.

The Grey Knights lowered their defense scoring average to just under seven points a game.

On the other hand, Calhoun has been just as impressive on offense. So far in the playoffs, the Yellow Jackets have averaged 42 points a game.

But should it matter who wins the Grady-Calhoun matchup? Remember, Charlton County is the defending champ in Double-A.

And while the Indians (12-1) face Greene County on Friday, Lowndes and LaGrange will try for consecutive state titles as well.

Earlier this season, Lowndes was upset by lower-classed Ware County, who didn't even make the postseason. But the Vikings (12-1), who captured the Class AAAAA title last year, have won seven straight games and face Stephenson on Saturday.

Though Lowndes overcame one early season loss, LaGrange has rebounded from two defeats. The Grangers (11-2), who have been inconsistent most of the regular and postseason, will attempt their third title defense. They'll play Peach County.

Other Friday games: In Class AAAA, Northside-Warner Robins faces Baldwin and Griffin plays Statesboro, who lost in last year's title game. Lincoln County, who lost its previous semifinals, returns to the Georgia Dome against Johnson County.

Saturday games includes: Brookwood faces Dacula in Class AAAAA matchup. In Triple-A, Dougherty plays Shaw. Washington-Wilkes heads against Bowdon in the Class A semifinal.

(by The Associated Press)
