Washington-Wilkes rallies to beat Bowden

ATLANTA - Jareon Small took a screen pass for a 55-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter and Washington-Wilkes rallied for the second straight week to beat Bowdon 18-14 in the Class A state semifinals on Saturday.<br>

The Tigers (12-2) will meet Lincoln County, which beat Johnson County on Friday, for the state title next week. Its a rematch from week 9 for both teams Lincoln County won 20-13.<br>

Washington-Wilkes, which scored 20 points in the final two minutes that was highlighted by a couple touchdowns in a 53 second span last week, had another rally in them.<br>
<br>
Small, who ran for 148 yards on 21 carries, raced through the middle of Bowdon's defense for a 69-yard scoring run. Then he converted a two-point conversion on a catch from Clete Wilson, cutting the lead to 14-11 in the third quarter.<br>
<br>
Small's deciding score for Washington-Wilkes came with two blockers leading on the outside against one defender.<br>

Bowdon answered with a strong drive, highlighted by a 42-yard catch from Jake Rollins to A.J. Cooley. But the Red Devils (13-1) couldn't convert on fourth-and-1 while in scoring position.<br>
<br>
After Bowdon's defense stopped Washington-Wilkes, Travis Nunn lost a fumble during a punt return. Bowdon had another chance with 1 second left, inside the redzone, but Rollins' pass went soaring out of the the endzone for an incompletion.<br>

Nunn led Bowdon with 72 yards rushing on 12 carries. Cooley, who had a 42-yard catch, rushed 15 times for 65 yards and two touchdowns, which both came in the first half.
