Lowndes dominated on defense, keeping the Valdosta offense out of the end zone, and the Vikings offense hit four big plays for touchdowns.
``Im extremely proud of this team,'' Lowndes coach Randy McPherson said. ``The whole team contributed to this win, a total team effort. Everybody played well.
``It's a big game, real exciting. It feels good to win this one.''
But the game was closer than the score indictated.
The Vikings (6-1) led 7-0 at halftime then added another score in the third quarter when Doug Belk hit Matt Harper on a 27-yard touchdown pass.
Lowndes broke the game open with two long runs for touchdowns in the fourth quarter. First, Lynn Williams dashed for a 31-yard TD then fullback Stanley Dickson scored on a 36-yard run with 1:03 left in the game.
Michael Turner completed 10-of-15 passes for 62 yards and ran for 44 yards on eight carries for Valdosta (5-3).
``We just hung in there, and stuck with the game plan, and figured out what was going to work,'' McPherson said.
