GAINESVILLE - With the municipal elections in Hall County less than a month away, elections officials remind you that some of the restrictions on absentee voting have been eased.

Hall County Director of Elections Anne Phillips Lea says you can now vote absentee - by mail - even if you will be in town on election day and are physically able to go to the polls. "Contact us, fill out an application and we will mail you a ballot without having any reason to vote other than just wanting to vote by mail early."

In past, to vote absentee, there was a list of reasons, such as out of town or physically unable to get to the polls, and you had to check one on the request form.

The legislature okayed the change earlier this year after early voting - which occurs the week before an election - proved so popular all over the state that there were long lines in many places each day for the six workdays prior to Election Day.
