The first phase, with the accepted bid of $530,000.00, installs a sewer line from GA 53 westerly along Martin Road to Hall County's pump station. The 2700-feet project will be funded by a low-interest loan made to the city by the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority, according to city manager Stan Brown.
Brown says Rochester & Associates, Inc. of Gainesville designed the project and prepared the GEFA loan packet for Oakwood, "It has taken us a long time working with the county and the other governments here in Hall County to make this project come about. We're just happy to see it moving along."
"Pieces of the long-sought puzzle are coming together," said Lee Phillips, Vice President of the civil engineering firm. "Everyone realizes the magnitude of a quality sewer system serving Hall County, and we commend the foresight of the City of Oakwood for taking this initiative."
Oakwood Mayor Lamar Scroggs added, "this is a key component in our master plan, one which will compliment our existing system and offer opportunities for our future."
The second phase will traverse a lengthier section of GA 53, from Atlanta Highway southeast to Union Church Road. It will be let to bid and constructed in conjunction with the GA Department of Transportation's schedule for road widening of GA 53.
The Phase I project will begin in November with an expected four month completion date.
