Panthers begin 18-game A-Sun stretch

Georgia State begins a stretch of 18 key Atlantic Sun Conference games when they play host to UCF on Monday night, Jan. 3, at 6 p.m. at the GSU Sports Arena.<br> <br> The Panthers, who have played the 12th toughest early season schedule in the country this year, will battle the defending conference tournament champion Golden Knights (8-2 to start this season).<br> <br> Georgia State (3-7) has faced a brutal non-conference schedule that has included losses at four top 100 teams (Kentucky-9, Texas Tech-26, Charlotte-49, Nevada-85) as well as at Louisiana-Lafayette-111. UCF, meanwhile at No. 184 in the Sagarain ratings, has played the 315th schedule in the nation and has picked up just one win over a team that was in the top 200 (Utah State at 102). The Panthers, No. 208 in Sagarin, own a win over 9-2 Southern Miss of Conference USA in the season opener in Nevada and a win over No. 111 Louisiana-Lafayette.<br> <br> The game will be broadcast on WRAS-FM (88.5) Radio with the pregame show beginning at 5:30 and Coach Perry&#39;s interview at 5:45.<br> <br> These 18 conference games include 10 of them at home. The Panthers are 2-0 at home this year and 49-10 since February of 2000 inside the GSU Sports Arena. The Panthers own a win over No. 115 Louisiana-Lafayette at home this season.<br> <br> Senior forward Marcus Brown has led the Panthers in the non-conference portion of the season with a 16.2 scoring average and 5.5 rebound average. He&#39;s also shot 56 percent outside the three-point arc with 25-of-43 made. Senior guard Kevin Thomas is averaging 11.2 points with 23 three-point baskets. Slyvester Morgan leads the team with 21 blocked shots. Five different players have led the team in scoring in different games already this season.<br> <br> Georgia State follows this Monday night game with another home game on Wednesday evening at the Sports Arena. Conference preseason player-of-the-year Mike Bell will lead the Florida Atlantic Owls into the game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
