Emmanuel wins in Wal-Mart Classic at NGCSU

DAHLONEGA - Emmanuel College held on for most of the game, but fourth ranked Lindsey Wilson College (12-1) took over in the second half as they defeated the Lions 73-56 in the first game of the Wal-Mart Classic hosted by North Georgia College & State University. <br> <br> The first half was fast paced with each team trading buckets throughout the half. Emmanuel (2-11) broke out to an early six point lead when junior forward Patrick McGowan sunk a field goal to make the score 9-3 five minutes in. <br> <br> With 12:41 left in the first, the Blue Raiders took the lead 10-9 off of a three pointer from senior guard Cetric Anderson (Nashville, Tenn.). Lions junior guard Ryan Frazee (Houston, Tx.) stole the ball with three seconds left in the half and heaved a shot in from just behind the arc to cut the LWC lead to three and make the score 27-25 at the end of the half. <br> <br> As the second half began, Emmanuel fought to cut the lead to two when sophomore guard Shavoye Brown (Hartwell, Ga.) knocked down a field goal to make the score 29-31. Two possessions later, a steal by Blue Raiders junior guard Scott Cook (Brisbane, Australia) and a three pointer by senior guard Jared Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) gave LWC all the momentum they needed. Over the next five minutes, the Blue Raiders went on a 15-0 run as they broke out a 49-29 lead. The Blue Raiders had their largest lead of the game at the 5:22 mark with the score 69-39 and went on for the 17 point win. <br> <br> McGowan led the Lions in scoring with 25 points after shooing 9-13 from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line. Frazee chipped in 13 points in the effort and shot 50% (2-4) from behind the arc. Emmanuel shot 50% (10-20) from the field in the first half, but cooled in the second and shot 39% (18-46) for the game. <br> <br> Two LWC players shared the honor of most points with Anderson and senior forward Talyor Terrance (Riviera Beach, Fla.) scoring 12. The Blue Raiders shot 53% (29-54) for the game and committed only nine turnovers to the Lions 18.
