Governor's bond proposal includes several area projects

ATLANTA - The bond-financed projects included in the budget submitted to Georgia lawmakers by Governor Perdue includes $20 million for a new library and technology center at North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega.

Also included is $810,000 for the Auburn public library in Barrow County and one million dollars for renovations at Appalachian Technical College in Jasper.

Here is the compelte package:

UNIVERSITY SYSTEM

-$26.9 million to design and build the health, wellness and lifelong learning center at the State University of West Georgia in Carrollton

-$20.5 million to design and build the library and technology center at North Georgia College State University in Dahlonega

-$20.2 million for Georgia Research Alliance

-$13.9 million for major renovations statewide (redirected from specific projects earmarked by Democrats last year)

-$12.6 million to design and build the new academic building at Savannah State University

-$10.1 million to design and build the Parks Nursing/Health Sciences renovation at Georgia College State University in Milledgeville

-$5 million to complete the state portion of the Advanced Clean Room facility project at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta

-$1.6 million for equipment for the social science building at Kennesaw State University

-$1.5 million for equipment for the performing and visual arts center at the University of Georgia in Athens

-$800,000 for equipment for the student center at Georgia Perimeter College in Clarkston

LIBRARIES

-$1.7 million for the Tifton-Tift County public library

-$1 million for a new Henry County-McDonough library

-$810,000 for the Auburn public library

TECHNICAL COLLEGES

-$23.9 million to design and build a new classroom building at DeKalb Technical College (redirected from an assortment of projects earmarked by Democrats last year)

-$10 million to replace obsolete equipment statewide

-$7.5 million for minor renovations statewide

-$2.3 million for statewide heating and air and roof improvements (redirected from projects earmarked by Democrats last year)

-$1.4 million to renovate classroom building at Glennville campus of Southeastern Technical College

-$1.2 million for renovations at Appalachian Technical College in Jasper

BARNS, TRADE CENTERS, BEACHES

-$11 million for the Columbus Trade Center

-$3 million to design and build an expansion of the beef and dairy arena for the Agricultural Exposition Authority in Perry

-$1 million to restore the Brunswick beach

-$500,000 for North Georgia lodge rehabilitation

-$400,000 for general improvements at the Agrirama in Tifton

ENVIRONMENTAL

-$52 million for low interest loans for local water and sewer projects

-$32.5 million to replace or close state-owned fuel storage tanks

-$4.5 million to match funds for the clean water construction loan program

-$3.5 million to match funds for the drinking water construction loan program

GEORGIA PORTS AUTHORITY

-$26.5 million for Container Berth 8 and support equipment, Savannah ports

-$14.6 million for four new ship-to-shore cranes, Savannah ports

-$7 million for rubber tire gantry cranes, Savannah ports

-$5.3 million for deepening of Brunswick Harbor

-$2.5 million for Container Berths 4,5 and 6 overlay grid, Savannah ports

-$2.2 million for Savannah Harbor deepening study

TRANSPORTATION

-$383.8 million for the Governor's Fast Forward Transportation program

-$20 million for the state-aid maintenance assistance program

PRISONS

-$20.5 million for bed space expansion statewide

-$4.5 million for statewide minor construction projects

-$3.7 million for statewide locking control rehabilitations

-$260,000 for statewide major roof rehabilitations

OUT OF LUCK

In funding certain of his own projects, Perdue dropped the ax on the following projects which had been earmarked for funding by Democrats:

-$13.7 million from Heart of Georgia Technical College in Dublin for a classroom building

-$7.6 million from Coosa Valley Technical College in Rome for a classroom building

-$5 million for proposed rehabilitation of Davis Hall and a science building at South Georgia College in Douglas

-$5 million for the State University of West Georgia in Carrollton for campus expansion infrastructure

-$2.5 million from Southern Polytechnic University in Marietta for minor capital outlay projects

-$1 million from Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins for a work force center

-$748,000 from Savannah State University for renovation of Hill Hall

-$400,000 from Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus for renovation of Wheatly Hall

-$277,000 for success and retention center at Gordon College in Barnesville
