UNDATED - Congressmen Charlie Norwood and Jack Kingston have re-introduced legislation calling for the creation of two new interstate highways - one of which would cut through northeast Georgia.

Interstate 3 would connect Knoxville, Tennessee, with Athens and the Georgia coast. The southern terminus would be near Savannah.

Interstate 14, the other proposal, would link Augusta and Vicksburg, Mississippi, along a route that would take it through Macon.

The Savannah-Knoxville road could stretch through part of northeast Georgia, crossing I-85 between Commerce and the South Carolina line.

Officials said last year the interstates could take a decade to develop. Burns said cost estimates would be part of the DOT study.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
