Dragons torch Gilmer

ELLIJAY - Pickens County never trailed in taking a 72-50 win over Gilmer in Region 7-AAA North boys action Monday night.<br>

The game was a makeup from Friday when they were forced to cancel the game because of the recent ice storm.<br>
<br>
The Dragons (17-6, 7-0) were led Stephen Hunter with 16 points. Colby Shaw added 13 and Daniel Culbreth 11.<br>
<br>
Pickens opened the game with a 5-0 run and then expanded it to 12-4 in the first two minutes of the game. The Dragons led 28-14 after the first quarter.<br>
<br>
Gilmer County (5-16, 1-6) then held the ball the first two minutes of the second quarter but then tried to get back in the game. Pickens, however, added to its lead taking a 35-19 advantage into halftime.<br>
<br>
Clay Collins and Nolan Crump each led Gilmer with 11 points.<br>
<br>
Pickens will play host to Johnson Tuesday and then travel to Cleveland Friday to play White County in its regular season finale with a chance to finish the subregion undefeated.<br>
<br>
Gilmer will play host to Fannin County Tuesday and then travel to North Hall to finish out the regular season.<br>
