The Pioneer Bowl, the only NCAA-sanctioned Division II bowl game for historically black colleges and universities, will be played Dec. 4 in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

The game will match the winners of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The bowl has been played in Atlanta six times, but Dr. William Lide, the SIAC's commissioner, said bowl officials could not have found a better city for the game than Mobile.

Lide said a major consideration in making a move was finding a "city of good size, the quality of the facility and the support gained from the community for a bowl game as well as how accessible it would be for our fans to enter and exit the stadium."

Mobile is home to the GMAC Bowl, Dec. 22, and Senior Bowl, Jan. 29.

Information from: Mobile Register
