R-E-L has offered 17 total acres of land and an additional 2.59 acres that can be kept as green space and used indefinitely by GCSS.
"This site will be a great location for an elementary school, tying into our
existing greenspace plan," said Robby Lanier. "Our offer provides more than enough
land to build the school and creates a connection to the trail network that will run
throughout the community. We've said all along that REL is committed to being a good
corporate citizen, and we want to do something good for the school system."
The 19.59-acre tract is at the intersection of Mountain View and Old Oakwood roads.
The 2.59 acre parcel could be purchased by the school board at fair market value in
the future, if the property is intended for uses other than greenspace.
"We're committed to keeping as much green space in Mundy Mill as possible, and hope
the school board will join us in preserving natural areas," Lanier said. The master
plan for Mundy Mill sets aside more than 100 of its 607 acres for green space,
walking and biking trails and linear parks.
As with REL's previous offer to the school board, the land offer becomes one of the
conditions of zoning for the development. REL says the acreage will not be developed before January 1, 2008 and will be part of its last pod of single-family homes in the Mundy Mill development.
