Frances, holiday impacting garbage pickup

GAINESVILLE - Garbage pickup in Gainesville - already delayed by a day because of the Labor Day holiday - is taking a hit from Tropical Storm Francis, as well.

Gainesville Superintendent of Solid Waste Dan Owen says the big problem a is subdivision streets that are blocked downed trees. Owen says garbage pickup in the city will be delayed by at least a day or two this week.

He asked that city garbage collection customers be patient, adding his crews will try to catch up as soon as possible.
