Virginia Tech routs W. Michigan

BLACKSBURG, VIRGINIA - Bryan Randall threw for 253 yards and two TDs and Virginia Tech snapped a four-game losing streak with a 63-0 win over Western Michigan on Saturday.<br> <br> Eddie Royal had an 11-yard touchdown run and caught a 35-yard pass for another score for the Hokies (1-1).<br> <br> The Broncos (1-1) have been shut out in three losses to Tech and are 0-6 all-time against teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference.<br> <br> Freshmen Justin Harper, Duane Brown and John Kinzer all caught their first touchdown passes for the Hokies, who lost the final three games of last season and their opener against Southern Cal on Aug. 28.<br> <br> The last time Tech lost four straight came when the dropped games to Virginia and Tennessee to end the 1994 season and to Boston College and Cincinnati to open the 1995 season.<br> <br> Cedric Humes and Justin Hamilton, who are trying to make up for the loss of tailback Kevin Jones, combined for 92 yards rushing and two touchdowns.<br> <br> The Hokies defense and special teams sparked its sputtering offense in the first half, hurrying passes, blocking kicks and overwhelming a Broncos team that beat Tennessee-Martin 42-0 in its season opener.<br> <br> In the first quarter, Jimmy Williams intercepted Blayne Baggett and scampered 21 yards to set up Royal&#39;s touchdown run.<br> <br> Humes made it 14-0 on a 21-yard run in the second quarter after Aaron Rouse stripped Baggett of the ball on a scramble. Randall later hit Richard Johnson over the middle for a 32-yard gain, setting up a 1-yard TD by Hamilton and then connected with Royal for a 35-yard score to put the Hokies in control.
