Oliva removed from DFCS helm after 10 months on job

<p>After only 10 months on the job, the state child welfare director was removed from her post Friday.</p><p>Janet Oliva, a former Georgia Bureau of Investigation child-abuse specialist, did not have the skills needed to lead the Division of Family and Children Services, said Department of Human Resources Commissioner B.J. Walker.</p><p>Walker said the agency is looking for someone with more knowledge of social-work issues.</p><p>Oliva is credited with stabilizing the department after two high-profile child deaths last year.</p><p>She was appointed by Gov. Sonny Perdue in September after the governor fired the then-heads of DHR and DFCS. He called Oliva's appointment a trial run.</p><p>Oliva will continue to serve as a special assistant to Walker, helping the department improve relations with the juvenile court and GBI.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x28707e0)</p>
