An Ocean Springs woman being held in jail on a federal indictment accusing her of sexually abusing and molesting children could be placed on house arrest if her family members arrange for a telephone to be installed at their home, a judge says.

Sabrina Hinton, 20, was arrested last week on a 17-count indictment handed down in May by a federal grand jury in Macon, Ga. She has been charged with conspiracy to commit sexual abuse of a minor, abusive sexual contact and child molestation.

U.S. Magistrate John Roper denied bond to Hinton on Tuesday at a detention hearing in Gulfport. Roper said Hinton could be released on house arrest if her family installs a telephone.

According to the indictment, Hinton was living in housing at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia with her husband when the abuse and molestation occurred between May and June 2003.

She is accused of performing sexual acts with her husband in front of minor children and engaging in sexual activity with children ages 10- to 15-years old.

During the detention hearing, Latasha West, a special agent with the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations, testified the charges against Hinton and her husband came as a result of a complaint made by the mother of one of the children.

She said during the investigation, Hinton was interviewed and admitted her participation in a detailed handwritten statement.

"She didn't appear to think what she did was wrong," West said.

West said Hinton's husband, James Hinton, has since been found guilty of the charges against him and is incarcerated at a California military prison.

Sabrina Hinton will face charges against her at a later date in U.S. District Court in Macon.
