Former Hawks GM hired by Raptors

TORONTO - The Toronto Raptors have hired former Atlanta Hawks general manager Pete Babcock to be their director of NBA player personnel. <br> <br> Babcock - the brother of new Raptors&#39; general manager Rob Babcock - will focus on free agents and trades. <br> <br> Pete Babcock spent 13 years as the Hawks&#39; GM before being fired last year. Atlanta made the playoffs in eight of his first nine full seasons, reaching 50 victories three times and winning the Central Division championship in 1994. <br> <br> But his teams never got past the second round of the playoffs, and he was criticized for failing to improve the team through the draft.
