Commission race a referendum on land use plan?

GAINESVILLE - A Hall County Commission candidate said Tuesday the race he's in is shaping up to be a referendum on the county's new comprehensive land use plan.

Augie DeAugustinis commented toward the end of an appearance with opponent Billy Powell before the Gainesville Kiwanis Club.

The two are running in the July 20 Republican Primary for the post being vacated by Roger Cole.

DeAugustinis favors the densities set aside in the plan, while pointing out that, like a blueprint, the plan can be changed - and, by law, will have to be in another five years.

Powell said the densities will adversely impact the availability of affordable housing in the county.
