Clemson football sells out season tickets

CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson's strong football finish last season has led to the school selling out its season tickets for the first time.

Although the school's announcement Thursday did not indicate how many ticket packages were sold, it said sales were up 2,000 from last year. A February release detailing the school's season-ticket prices for this year said Clemson sold 54,708 such packages for the 2003 season.

An athletic spokesman said 56,800 season tickets were sold.

No doubt fans of the Tigers were heartened by last year's finish. Clemson defeated third-ranked Florida State 26-10, then beat Duke 40-7 and routed state rival South Carolina 63-17 to close the regular season. Then the Tigers blasted Tennessee in the Peach Bowl, 27-14.

``The excitement has carried over from the strong finish of the 2003 season resulting in a sellout of available seating for season tickets,'' Clemson ticket manager Bobby Skelton said.

The school said there are no tickets of any kind available for the South Carolina-Clemson showdown scheduled for Death Valley on Nov. 20.

Individual tickets are available for the other five games: Wake Forest (Sept. 4), Georgia Tech (Sept. 11), Utah State (Oct. 16), Maryland (Oct. 23) and North Carolina State (Oct. 30).

It's the sixth-straight year Clemson exceeded the 50,000 mark in season-ticket sales. The school ranked 15th nationally in home football attendance with 532,551.
