``He's done all the work he needs to do in the classroom and he's ready to be an LSU Tiger,'' Brady said.
Davis, 6-foot-8 and 310 pounds, was a two-sport star at University High School in Baton Rouge and was heavily recruited by football and basketball programs nationwide. He considered testing the NBA draft before deciding to focus on academic work he needed to complete to meet NCAA standards for freshmen.
As a senior, he averaged 26.3 points and 14.3 rebounds per game for University, which won its second state championship in three seasons.
Brady's goal will be to figure out how to combine Davis' talents with those of Brandon Bass, the 6-foot-8, 240-pound 2004 SEC freshman of the year. Bass returns after averaging 12.8 points and 7.4 rebounds a game last season.
LSU opens the year at home against Tulane on Nov. 19.
