GAINESVILLE - Hall County Schools Superintendent Dennis Fordham is not turning cartwheels over the fact that the number of county schools on the state's new "needs improvement" list is down significantly this year.

"And, that's because I think there are some fundamental flaws in the process," he said.

For instance, he said it's just unfair to label a school with virtually identical scores with another as "needing improvement" just because it has two more students in its "special education."

Dr. Fordham said Tuesday he feels there are also "statistical flaws" in the AYP process, as well.

He said he feels it would be a mistake to make much "to do" over the data, but was quick to add "the vast majority of our schools made AYP last year (and) a larger number made AYP this year and that's certainly better than going in the opposite direction."
