UNDATED - Torrential rains pounded Gainesville and most of northeast Georgia Monday morning and, for seveal hours, the area was under a tornado watch.

The National Weather Service issued the tornado watch about 2:30 a.m. for 31 north Georgia counties. It was lifted for most of them at 7:00 but continued for Hall and eight other counties until 8:00.

There were no reports of severe weather in northeast Georgia, but strong thunderstorms did hit parts of northwest Georgia before daybreak. By the time the storms moved into the Gainesville area, they had lost a lot of their punch, but there was still a lot of rain, especially around daybreak.

Rainfall Monday in Gainesville totaled .68 inch.
