FSU women's basketball player found dead

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA - Florida State women's basketball player Ronalda Pierce was found dead in her off-campus apartment Tuesday, police said.<br>

The 19-year-old Pierce died at approximately 2:30 a.m., Lt. Mark Wheeler said. The cause of death was not immediately available, but preliminary autopsy results were expected later Tuesday.<br>
<br>
Pierce, the tallest player on the Seminoles roster at 6-foot-5, averaged 5.3 points and 3.5 rebounds a game in her freshman season.<br>
<br>
It was the second time in a little over three years that a Florida State athlete has died.<br>
<br>
In February 2001, Devaughn Darling, an 18-year-old linebacker on the football team, collapsed during a workout and died of an apparent cardiac arrhythmia.
