COMMERCE - The retired chairman of the Georgia Department of Transportation board, Steve Reynolds, has been honored for his longtime service to northeast Georgia.

Commerce Mayor Charles Hardy and Jackson County Commissioner Sammy Thomason presided over ceremonies recently re-naming Progress Road Steve Reynolds Industrial Parkway.

Reynolds was also presented with a resolution from the Georgia House by Representative Chris Elrod of Jefferson.

Reynolds is a native of Commerce, serving on its City Council before moving to Gwinnett County in 1962. He served a number of years in the Georgia Senate, was chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and later was elected to the Department of Transportation board. He retired from the board this spring.
