Jackson, one of the most successful coaches in N-B-A history with nine titles, won't return as coach of the Lakers next season. His agent Todd Musberger says an official joint statement would be released later.
The move was expected even before Jackson met with Lakers owner Jerry Buss on Friday. Jackson said during the N-B-A Finals it was very unlikely he would be back next season.
Jackson's Lakers were upset in five games by Detroit in the most recent N-B-A championship in one of the biggest sports upsets of the year.
