OAKWOOD - Gainesville College recently honored four retiring long-time employees.

Deborah Bolding, J. Bob Howington, Stephen D. Langston and Lewis F. Rogers were recognized for their combined 120 years of service to the institution. Their individual accomplishments were also highlighted for the more than 125 faculty, staff, family and friends who gathered for the occasion.

Deborah Bolding will retire with 29 years of service to the college as Associate Professor of Mathematics. College officials say her benchmark contributions include the establishment of a Math Club and the Gainesville College Mathematics Tournament.

Bob Howington has served the institution longer than any other employee in the college's 40 year history with 36 years of service. He will retire from the college as Vice President of Business and Finance after having worked under all three of the college's presidents - Dr. Hugh Mills, Dr. Foster Watkins, and Dr. Martha Nesbitt, the current president.

Stephen Langston became the Director of Financial Aid in 1979 and has ably assisted thousands of students going though the financial aid process. Langston worked at GC for 25 years.

Lewis Rogers will retire with 30 years of service as Chair of the Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technology Division.

The 40th Anniversary of the college's charter was recognized with a historical perspective presented by the founding president, Dr. Hugh Mills. Dr. Mills spoke about the college's beginnings and recognized several individuals in attendance who were responsible for the creation of the institution. James Mathis, Senior, and Loyd Strickland were members of the Gainesville-Hall County Education Task Force and James "Bubba" Dunlap, also of Gainesville, was Chairman of the Board of Regents when the college was chartered in 1964.
