Michael Chitwood of Clermont is taking his original recipe for glazed stuffed chicken to Daytona International Speedway this week where the national competition will be held in conjunction with the running of the Winn Dixie 250 and the Pepsi 400.
"I heard about the contest over the radio, and I've experimented with flavors enough to develop my own recipes so I thought 'Why not?'" said Chitwood. "I was a little bit in disbelief when I was named a finalist. But my glazed stuffed chicken has a different and distinct taste, so I believe it can hold its own against the competition."
As a finalist, Chitwood will receive a five-day, four-night trip for two to Daytona, two tickets to the Winn-Dixie 250 and Pepsi 400 races, $500 in spending money, and of course, the chance to be named King of the Grill.
"I've only become a race fan over the last few years and have never been to a race. My wife and I are excited about the trip to the race in Daytona and hope to bring the title of King of the Grill home to Georgia," said Chitwood.
Thursday morning, Winn-Dixie 250 race qualifying day at Daytona, Chitwood will face five other competitors in a recipe grill-off. Entries will be judged on taste, originality/creativity, ease of preparation and visual appearance by Winn-Dixie's corporate Chef Robert Tulko and a panel of guest judges.
The cook with the winning recipe will accompany the Grand Marshal of the Winn-Dixie 250 at the starting line of the race and receive VIP access to the Winn-Dixie 250. In addition, the winner will receive free groceries from Winn-Dixie for a year and free Pepsi for a year.
