Plans for the project had come under fire in a number of circles since they were announced a few months ago.
Kip Padgett, Director of Planning and Development for the City of Gainesville, said the applicants gave no reasons Monday when they came into his office and asked to withdraw their plans.
Padgett said the plans can be resubmitted but the developers will have to wait at least six months, by law, before doing so.
The proposed $325 million Canterbury development would have included 36-story and 34-story multi-rise luxury condominiums and a six-star boutique hotel. Restaurants, high-end retail shops and a banquet hall - plus other amenities.
The developers withdrew both applications - one for annexation and one for rezoning - which were to be heard by the Gainesville Planning Commission next Tuesday.
