Athens Academy falls in Class A golf tourney

WAYCROSS - Savannah Country Day cruised to a 12-stroke win over two-time defending champion Athens Academy at Okefenokee Country Club in Waycross. <br> <br> The Hornets shot a 12-over 296. Calvary Baptist was third at 309, one stroke behind Athens Academy.<br> <br> Savannah Country Day won its first state title in 23 years after finishing second to Athens Academy the last two years.<br> <br> Freshman Blake Degenhart of Savannah Country Day shot even-par 72 to win the individual title. A teammate, sophomore Matthew Hammock, was one stroke back.<br> <br> Savannah Country Day also had the medalist on girls side. Junior Patricia Chu shot 81 on The Lakes at Laura Walker course in Waycross. Gordon Lee won the team title after finishing second in 2003.
