Burgamy named top boating ranger in state

GAINESVILLE - Corporal Mike Burgamy recently was selected as the Georgia Department of Natural Resources 2004 Georgia Boating Officer of the Year. Corporal Burgamy is a boating officer assigned to Lake Lanier Region II.

Corporal Burgamy was the top producer of BUI arrests on Lake Lanier in 2003. He made 22 BUI arrests, 9 BUI assists, was involved with 17 drug-related arrests, investigated 11 boating incidents, had 20 Marine Sanitation Device violation contacts and assisted with 18 others.

Corporal Burgamy is also active with community boating safety education. He serves on the Lanier Water Safety Task Force, where he helps coordinate the Life Jacket Swap Program, a program in which boaters can trade children's personal flotation devices (PFD's
