ATLANTA (AP) High school basketball phenom Dwight Howard said Wednesday he will enter his name in the NBA draft.
Howard, 18, a senior at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, said he had made his decision before the past season, but wanted to keep it a secret so he could enjoy his senior year.
He said he is projected to be picked in the top four picks. The Atlanta Hawks will be among those teams with a chance to pick him.
``If it worked out that I could play for the Hawks, that would be great,'' Howard said. ``But I just want to play and be happy wherever I go. It doesn't matter.''
He made his announcement at his high school gym.
Howard, a 6-foot-10 forward, averaged 25 points, 18 rebounds and eight blocked shots to lead his team to the Class A state championship this past season.
