A 31-year-old man accused in a series of rapes throughout the metro Atlanta area in 2001 was convicted Friday of raping two DeKalb County teenagers and assaulting a third.

A DeKalb jury found Allen B. Bailey guilty of rape, aggravated sodomy, kidnapping and aggravated assault. All three victims were dragged into abandoned houses, where they were attacked.

During the two-week trial, Superior Court Judge Hilton Fuller allowed prosecutors to tell jurors that Bailey also is accused in five other cases in Fulton County. He has not been tried in those cases.

Bailey had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but the jury rejected that verdict as well as the option of finding him guilty but mentally ill.

Sentencing is expected next week. Prosecutors will ask the judge to sentence Bailey to life in prison without parole because of the suffering he inflicted on multiple victims, said Assistant District Attorney Shawn La Grua.
