Man gets 35 years in prison for brutal mugging

<p>A College Park man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for beating and robbing an airport security screener and stuffing her in the trunk of her car at a MARTA train station as she headed for work.</p><p>Adiel Garcia pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated assault with intent to rob, aggravated battery, kidnapping, robbery and financial identify fraud in the July 14, 2002, attack on Phaeng Louangsiyotha, 26.</p><p>Garcia was 18 at the time of the attack, which happened just minutes after a MARTA police officer had passed through the parking lot. Louangsiyotha was headed to the Atlanta airport, where she screened passengers for early morning flights.</p><p>Prosecutors said Garcia gripped Louangsiyotha by the hair and repeatedly pounded her face against the pavement and expressed frustration she wouldn't die as he threw her in the trunk of her car.</p><p>For several hours, Garcia drove around with the victim in the trunk and used her ATM card to withdraw $30 from her bank account. She was rescued when someone heard her muffled screams at a convenience store. Garcia ran from the area but was chased down by a bystander.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x2868220)</p>
