JEFFERSON - People in Jackson, Banks, and Franklin counties are being briefed by state Department of Transportation (GDOT) officials on a transportation study being completed for their areas.

GDOT spokeswoman Teri Pope says improvements to highways 53, 129, and 441 are among the projects underway or planned in Jackson County.

"We have done statistical analysis on the roadways to come up with where we expect the growth to occur in the areas," Pope said.

Pope commented after a meeting in Jefferson on the study.

Banks countians will get their chance to review the plan Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Banks County High School.

Pope says the study covers a large number of transportation issues.

"Road widening, intersection improvements, completely new roads, sidewalks, park-and-ride lots, transit options."
