GAINESVILLE - A baby boy, missing for more than three hours Thursday in Gainesville, and who spent Thursday night in the custody of the state Department of Family and Children's Services has been returned to his mother.

The woman who took the infant for a walk but apparently was gone longer than his mother expected, was jailed on unrelated charges - and the whole thing was apparently a misunderstanding, according to Hall County Sheriff Steve Cronic.

Cronic says the search began about 1:00 Thursday afternoonk when the one-month-old was reported missing.

Someone who heard about the missing baby on a WDUN newscast called authorities and told them the baby and the woman he was with could be found at a house on Brenau Avenue.

A spokesman for the sheriff's department said Friday that the baby was returned to his mother Friday morning.

Sheriff Cronic says the whole thing was apparently a misunderstanding and neither woman has been charged in connection with the incident.
