Delta announces service between Eugene and Salt Lake City

<p>Delta Airlines announced Monday that it will begin direct service between Eugene and its Salt Lake City hub, via regional carrier SkyWest.</p><p>The announcement is a coup for the Eugene airport, which has been trying to compete with the much larger Portland International Airport.</p><p>SkyWest will operate two daily round-trip flights between Eugene and Salt Lake, according to a media release from Atlanta-based Delta.</p><p>For the next month, the carrier is offering an introductory $90 one way fare between Eugene and Salt Lake. That ticket must be purchased two weeks in advance.</p><p>Delta previously offered direct service between the cities from 1995 to 1998, also through contract carrier SkyWest.</p><p>The Eugene Airport lost dozens of flights, including large jet service, in the recession and travel downturn after September, 2001.</p>
