And it has nothing to do with subregion titles.
Johnson (18-6, 4-3 Region 7-AAA South) is the last team to beat the Lady Red Elephants (19-3, 7-0) and the only Class AAA team to beat them this year.
Yet, the Lady Knights are still looking for respect. Johnson is just 9-5 since knocking off Gainesville in the semifinals of the Lanierland Tournament while the Lady Elephants have won 11 straight.
Johnson is led by sophomore Brooke Baker and seniors Sarah Lane and Amanda Towe. Ggainesville is led by All-American senior Tasha Humphrey and sophomore Kita Waller.
Gainesville has already wrapped up the top spot in Region 7-AAA South with Johnson is second but just one game ahead of Flowery Branch, which beat the Lady Knights Tuesday.
In other girls action Friday, Fannin County (20-4, 8-1 Region 7-AAA North) can wrap up the subregion title with a win over North Hall (11-10, 6-3). But the Lady Trojans have been playing very well lately winning four straight and five of their last six games overall. The Lady Rebels have won five straight and seven of their last eight.
White County (13-10, 7-2) can clinch second place in the North subregion with a win over winless Gilmer County (2-20, 0-9). The Lady Warriors are also looking to snap a two-game losing streak.
Chestatee (8-14, 4-5) can finish .500 in the North subregion with a win over Pickens, a team the Lady War Eagles beat two weeks ago. Chestatee already has clinched fourth in the subregion.
In the South subregion, Flowery Branch (16-7, 3-4) can clinch third place with a win over rival West Hall (10-11, 1-6). The Lady Falcons are going for their second straight win while the Lady Spartans have lost four straight.
East Hall (13-10, 3-5) has finished its subregion schedule on will play host to Class A Whitefield Academy.
