GAINESVILLE - Three STAR students and three STAR teachers were named Tuesday to represent the Gainesville and Hall County school systems in the District START Student competition.
Karl Knights and James Hubbard, both of Gainesville High, were chosen to represent the city school system along with their STAR teachers, Sam Harben III and Cindy Smith.

The Gainesville system is sending two sets of winners to district because the students Knights and Hubbard tied for the city honor with the same SAT scores and class rank.
The Hall County system will be represented by STAR Student Michael Vaughn of Johnson High and his STAR Teacher Valerie Noble.
The system winners will now compete for District 2 STAR honors at an awards banquet to be held Thursday March 11 in Jasper.
Each school's STAR Student and STAR Teacher was recognized at Tuesday's meeting of the Gainesville Kiwanis Club where the system winners were announced.
