Deja vu for Lady Elephants against Elbert County

JONESBORO - The score wasn't the same, but the result was as the No. 1-ranked Gainesville girls basketball team hammered Elbert County for a second straight year in the Class AAA tournament.

The Lady Elephants rolled to a 52-28 win over the Lady Blue Devils at Mt. Zion High School to advance to the Elite Eight on Monday night.

Gainesville beat Elbert County by 24 points last year in the Elite Eight.

The Lady Elephants struggled again on offense but smothered Elbert, holding the Lady Blue Devils to less than 10 points in every quarter.

Gainesville, which is looking to repeat as Class AAA champs and going for its third title in four years, will play Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. Monday for a spot in the Final Four.

The Lady Elephants are looking for their third title in four years. The Lady Falcons, in just their second year of existence, are the surprise team in the field.
