LaGrange wins second straight AAA state title

LAGRANGE - LaGrange defended its home field and its state championship. Emphasis on the word defended.<br>

Behind a dominant defensive effort, the Grangers defeated Washington County 17-6 in the GHSA Class AAA state championship game tonight in LaGrange.<br>
<br>
The Grangers (15-0) captured their second consecutive title and third in four years with the victory. The Grangers have won 29 consecutive games and 55 of their last 57.<br>
<br>
Washington County (12-3) was hoping for its first state championship since winning the 1997 Class AA crown.<br>
<br>
LaGrange held Washington County to 149 yards of total offense, 66 of which came on the final drive with the game's outcome no longer in doubt.<br>
<br>
Running back Tyree Burnett, who rushed for more than 21-hundred yards in the first 14 games, had 78 on 15 carries. He had 62 of the yards on three second-quarter carries.<br>
<br>
LaGrange allowed just 86 points in 15 games this season.
