Gainesville staying strong in John Smith Tournament

DAHLONEGA - The John Smith Inventational Tournament kicked off Friday afternoon.

The Gainesville Red Elephants find themselves in sixth place after the first day of the tournament.

They have four players who are still in the winners bracket after the second round. In the 103 weight Joseph Jeanty is in the winners bracket.

Also in the winners bracket for Gainesville are Dustin Hicks in the 125 weight class, Bo Wren in 189, and Tony Newman in 215.

Chestatee's Bobby Anderson defeated both his opponents to stay in the winners bracket for the 145 weight class. Tommorrow Anderson will face North Forsyth's Alex Haney.

In the 171 weight class Lumpkin County's Josh Ghobadpoor held strong against both his opponents to stay in the winners bracket.

Ghobadpoor will face Gilmer's Kyle Trujillo in his first match tommorrow.

Jefferson is the defending champions of the John Smith Inventational and they look to repeat again this year. If they win, it will be their fourth straight year winning the John Smith Tourney.

They are currently leading with an overall total of 84.50 points. Gilmer is in second with a score total of 76.50 points and Lithia Springs is in third with a score total of 56.00 points.

Dawson County is in 8th, Lumpkin County is 9th, Chestatee is 13th, and North Hall is 14th.

The John Smith Inventational Tournament will pickup again tomorrow morning at 9:00 at Lumpkin County Highschool.
