SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - San Francisco 49ers general manager Terry Donahue said he's given Mississippi permission to interview Niners head coach Dennis Erickson.

Ole Miss athletic director Pete Boone and chancellor Robert Khayat were in California to meet with Erickson. Boone called Donahue last night to request the interview as he seeks a replacement for David Cutcliffe.

Erickson has three seasons and $7.5 million left on his Niners contact. But the Niners are 2-11 this season after going 7-9 in Erickson's first season with the team.

Donahue has said he won't fire Erickson, and Erickson has stated he won't quit.

Erickson has had success at the college level. He went 31-17 in four years at Oregon State before joining the 49ers. Before that he won two national championships in six seasons at Miami.
