Citadel whips winless Savannah St.

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Playing in his first game of the season, Donny McLendon scored 20 points to lead The Citadel to an 81-58 win over Savannah State on Wednesday.<br>

McLendon, who was ineligible for the Bulldogs' first six games because of NCAA transfer rules, scored 12 of his points in the second half.<br>
<br>
Kevin Hammack added 18 points, scoring 16 after halftime, and J'mel Everhart had 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for The Citadel.<br>
<br>
The Bulldogs (6-1) used a 16-0 run in the first five minutes of the second half to take control of the game.<br>
<br>
With 9:10 left in the first half, the Bulldogs took a 20-9 lead, but Donald Carson made a 3-pointer with one second remaining in the half to bring the Tigers (0-12) to within four points at 33-29.<br>
<br>
Savannah State was led by Mark Williams, who scored 20 points. Lazarius Coleman added nine points and five rebounds.
