Metro Atlanta's oldest mall due for $65M renovation

<p>Cumberland Mall was metro Atlanta's first enclosed mall when it opened in 1973. More than 30 years later, it could use a little work.</p><p>The area's oldest mall will get a $65 million renovation over the next 18 months, said the owner, General Growth Properties Inc.</p><p>Company development director Jim Grant said, "This isn't just a facelift. We are conducting an extreme makeover."</p><p>Plans call for building a streetscape of restaurants and shops and adding 77,000 square feet of retail space to the existing 1.2 million square feet, Grant said. An empty Macy's store will be torn down.</p><p>The work should be completed by spring 2006.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x2867620)</p>
