No new polling places in Hall for Tuesday

GAINESVILLE - If you didn't take advantage of early voting last week, or couldn't for one reason or another, we've got a preview of what you'll find on the Hall County ballot Tuesday.

There are several contested local races, but most are uncontested, and because of by-district voting, not everyone will be voting on them all, including the hotly-contested race between incumbent state Representative Carl Rogers and Ashley Bell.

The same is true of the county commission race between Virginia Pierce-Kelly and Billy Powell. Director of Elections Anne Phillips says there are no new or changed polling places since the summer primaries.

In addition, only voters outside the City of Gainesville will vote in the only contested school board race on the ballot - the one involving incumbent Republican Craig Herrington and Democratic challenger Mary Faulkner.

In addition to the presidential race and a number of state races and two proposed amendments to the Georgia Constitution, including the one on gay marriage, there will be two local questions on the ballot, one for City of Gainesville voters and the other for those in unincorporated Hall County. Each deal with increasing the school homestead exemption for senior citizens. They are identical in wording except that one applies to the city and the other the county.

Hall County Director of Elections Anne Phillips says there are no new or changed polling places for Tuesday's elections. Phillips says the same polling places used for the primaries in the summer will be used this time. She again encourages you to check your voter information cards for polling location before you go to the polls.

"If they need to check to see if they are registered, they may call 1-888-265-1115 (Secretary of State toll free number), go to www.sos.state.ga.us/elections and click on poll locater or call our office (as a last resort)," Phillips said.
