CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) Wali Lundy ran for two more touchdowns and Virginia remained in at least a two-way tie for first in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 16-0 victory against Maryland on Saturday.
The No. 12 Cavaliers (7-1, 4-1) kept pace with No. 18 Virginia Tech, which won at North Carolina 27-24. No. 11 Miami, the third co-leader to start the day, played host to Clemson on Saturday night.
In a game that has grown into a bitter rivalry, neither team looked especially sharp at the beginning, but Virginia wore down the Terrapins (4-5, 2-4) on the ground, running for 295 yards. Alvin Pearman led the way with 170 yards on 31 carries, and Lundy added 107 on 24 attempts.
His touchdowns were his 13th and 14th of the season.
Virginia's defense also played a huge role, not allowing quarterback Joel Statham to follow up his 333-yard performance in a 20-17 victory against then-No. 5 Florida State last week, or Josh Allen to come anywhere near the career-best 257 yards ran for against Virginia last year.

Statham was 10-for-17 for just 115 yards before being replaced by Jordan Steffy in the fourth quarter. Statham also was intercepted twice by linebacker Ahmad Brooks. Allen ran for 39 yards on 10 tries.
A Scott Stadium record crowd of 63,072 turned out on a crisp fall day and saw a scoreless first quarter that featured a fumble and interception by Virginia, and interception by Maryland and a stop on fourth down.

The stop came with the Terrapins facing a fourth-and-1 at Virginia's 14 late in the first quarter. Maryland twice tried to get the yard on sneaks by Statham, but each time he was denied by Virginia's line.
Behind Pearman, the Cavaliers finally got something going.

Pearman ran nine times for 49 yards and caught a dump pass for 13 yards as Virginia drove 86 yards for the game's first points. Lundy capped the drive with a 4-yard run.
After Maryland gained only 6 yards in three plays and punted, Lundy took over at tailback and ran for 47 of the Cavaliers' 59 yards in a 10-play scoring drive. On a 15-yard TD run, Lundy started left, found his path filled with Terrapins, then cut back right and scored easily.
Virginia placekicker Connor Hughes, who missed only twice in 25 field goal tries all of last season, missed from 53 and 35 yards Saturday, and hit the outside of the left upright on his second extra point try.
