Clemson, USC not going to bowl after brawl

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Officials from Clemson University and the University of South Carolina say the teams will not accept postseason bowl bids as punishment for a brawl during Saturday&#39;s game.<br> <br> South Carolina athletics director Mike McGee said the actions were not consistent with the values, morals and ethics of the school.<br> <br> ``This decision will have a significant financial impact on USC athletics. We will also lose a month of prebowl practice it was a decision that had to be made,&#39;&#39; McGee said.<br> <br> The brawl broke out with 5:48 to go. It started when Tigers defensive lineman Bobby Williamson took down South Carolina quarterback Syvelle Newton and appeared to linger too long on top of him.<br> <br> South Carolina&#39;s Lou Holtz, coaching his last game with the Gamecocks, and Clemson coach Tommy Bowden tried to break things up. Eventually, security and police officers were needed to restore order.<br> <br> Clemson won the game 29-7.
