NE Georgians approved for $700K+ in 'Ivan' assistance

ATLANTA - Northeast Georgians received more than $700,000 in federal and state disaster assistance for damage caused by Hurricane Ivan.

Nine of the 18 counties in the state included in the disaster declaration are in our area.

People in Gilmer County, which was the hardest hit in the area, filed 171 applications for $366,000 in assistance.

Next on the list was Rabun County with 163 applications and assistance totaling $214,000.

Here is a county-by-county Northeast Georgia breakdown reflecting the name of the county, the number of applications in each county, the amount of housing assistance that was approved and the amount of "other needs" assistance that was okayed.

In all, people in the 18 counties in Georgia included in the declaration received more than $3.4 million in assistance. Inspectors with the Federal Emergency Management Agency completed 1,736 inspections of damaged homes in the affected areas.
